Hey all you Sweethearts who tell us your kids are big fans of Golden Bears … Julianna made a beautiful children’s album for them and you under the name Cat Doorman! Some of the amazing folks whose instruments and arrangements grace the album: Nick Reddel, Chris Funk, Garth Klippert, Annalisa Tornfelt, Ralf Youtz, Kate O’Brien Clark and of course master engineer and player … Golden Bears’ own Seth! It’s coming out at the end of January, 2013 and we’re lining up a roster of shows to celebrate. First, we’ll be warming up the stage for Blind Pilot at You Who on January 6. And on January 26th we’ll be tearing up Mississippi Studios with the help of your children. Visit the site for advance tickets. And join the Cat Doorman mailing list … there’s other exciting stuff coming your way soon!
Come on out! Hungry Ghost welcomes back Andrew Price from his many months abroad. They have a SMOKING new record in the can and will rip your face off with their tunes! And GBs have a load of new songs for you! Homie DJ Walking Tour (aka Sara Jaffe) will be spinning sweet records. Matthew Colin’s World War (two adorable traveling kids who are living in a van down the street from us) will start things off with an acoustic set. Lovely!
Though in general it’s not a great idea to feed bears beer–or any other alcoholic beverages–this show may prove to be the exception. We’re so pleased to be invited to play at the Portland Mercury’s Malt Ball, an all-day event pairing favorite Portland bands–including Weinland and Builders and Butchers–with local brewers who are creating a beer just for that band! Wonder what ours will entail…honey? LSD? Freshly killed campers? Come and find out! (Note to parents: We play early, like 3:45, so there’s plenty of time to have a couple of beers and then regret your decision for the remainder of the day….)
Here are some stills from the GB video Julianna is making with the help of AfterEffects wizard, Zak Margolis. Psyched! And have a look at Seth’s new website for his recording and compositional work, Little Golden Book Studio. It’s where we made our record and a lot of other beautiful things happened!
Julianna is contributing a piece to Jason Sturgill‘s Deadstock Show, benefiting the wonderful Right Brain Initiative, a group working to make arts education accessible to all students, K-8, in the Portland tri-county region. Opening at Compound Gallery this Thursday, February 2nd with a host of fantastic artists. Hope to see you there!
